"Sometimes you do get what you want!!"

Metallica have agreed to play a Christchurch concert following a campaign by die-hard Christchurch fans over the internet, including setting up a Facebook page which attracted more than 20,000 members.

Metalalica sent this message through its fanclub: "Sometimes you do get what you want! You asked (OK demanded!) and we heard ya.

"When we got wind of the massive petitions for us to come to Christchurch, New Zealand we just had to check it out and wow, the number of requests were overwhelming.

So the moral of the story is to be careful what you wish for because 'Talalica is coming to Christchurch on September 22 at CBS Canterbury Arena."

Metallica is an American heavy metal band, founded in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich in Los Angeles. During the first couple of years, Metallica played in small festivals and as supporting acts on tours for bands such as Venom. Subsequent tours have featured Metallica as the headlining act with support from bands such as Ozzy Osbourne, Anthrax, Kid Rock, Exocus to mention just a few.

Since 1982 the band has performed on all populated continents. Performed live events every single year for a total of over 1600 shows. The majority in the United States but numerous concerts were in Canada, United Kingdom and Germany among others.

Their longest official tour has been the "Wherever We May Roam" tour which lasted 14 months and had over 174 concerts. The band is currently on the "World Magnetic Tour," expected to finish in 2010 and will last over 20 months. The band is among the most lucrative live bands, with huge attendances and grossing millions.

The band has released nine studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, twenty-four music videos, and forty-five singles.

They have won nine Grammy Awards

Performing for more than two hours, Metallica will feature material drawn from throughout their career including their current album, Death Magnetic.
