Milano Motor Lodge Business As Usual - after Christchurch earthquake

You just can't keep Cantabrians or Milano Motor Lodge motel accommodation down!!!!!!

Milano Motor Lodge, 87 Papanui Road, Merivale, Christchurch, is undamage and its business as usual following the earthquake! A lot of Christchurch is undamaged and everyone is working hard to get Christchurch up and running again where possible.

In the split second of waking up at Milano Motor Lodge Motel as the initial jolt of the earthquake hit Christchurch and the surrounding areas, we thought this was the end for us. It is almost impossible to recall clearly our first reactions at 4.35am on Saturday 4th September 2010, although I do remember that I shot out of bed like a rocket. Our guests at Milano Motor Lodge motel accommodation must have all had the same reaction we had, as by the time we rushed down the stairs and opened the front door, they were all outside their accommodation - all safe although shaken.

The realisation that our guests at Milano Motor Lodge Motel accommodation were safe, we were safe and there wasn't much damaged or broken was reassuring and we began contacting family and checking that the other motelliers along our strip of Papanui Road were OK and hadn't received much damage in the earthquake.

Those at Milano Motor Lodge motel accommodation were very lucky, we had no damage to speak of, still had power, phone and low pressure water. Yet across the other side of the road they had no power, phone and water. By this time the sun - which we haven't seen much all over winter - actually began to rise and so what for Christchurch and Canterbury regions was the beginning of a devastating day, the sunshine somehow made it a lot more palatable.

We are shattered but Cantabrians are resourceful, stubborn, determined and above all have the ability to work together and rise above adversity. We are community spirited, prepared to work with our neighbours to overcome obstacles put in our paths.

An amazing amount of work has been done already, teams of volunteers and wonderful citizens from all walks of life in this beautiful city of Christchurch have given hours of their time and begun the huge task of repairing the damage. Mother Nature may have been unkind but the people of Christchurch are rising above all the difficulties and are slowly beginning to rebuild their environment and lives. In some areas it will be a lot sooner than others. For the worst affected in the earthquake it will take a long, time to recover but those that are in a better position are doing their utmost to support them. Hopefully once the aftershocks become less severe and not so frequent the assessors will be able to complete their job and those people whose lives have been shattered will be able to see some light at the end of the tunnel and begin to move forward as they receive the help that they so desperately need.
